How to Use the NTSA App to Stay Compliant

Road safety is a shared responsibility, and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in Kenya plays a vital role in enforcing traffic regulations. Regular compliance checks are conducted on highways to ensure public service vehicles (PSVs), drivers, and passengers adhere to the rules.

However, you can also take proactive steps to verify key details using the NTSA app. This blog post provides a detailed guide to using the NTSA app for quick and easy compliance checks.

Why Verify Details Using the NTSA App?

The NTSA app is a powerful tool that allows you to confirm the compliance status of vehicles, drivers, and conductors. With this app, you can check whether the vehicle’s insurance and inspection are up to date, the validity of the driver’s license, and the registration status of the vehicle or conductor.

Vehicle Verification covers checking the vehicle’s registration number, insurance status, inspection details, and owner information.

Driver Verification helps confirm the driver’s license validity and check for any sanctions or restrictions using their license or ID number.

Conductor Verification helpsensures the conductor is registered and compliant by inputting their ID or relevant details.

These checks can help you avoid penalties, ensure safe travel, and report any irregularities directly to NTSA.

What is TIMS (Transport Integrated Management Systems)

TIMS, short for Transport Integrated Management Systems, is an online platform developed by the Kenya National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to simplify and streamline various transport-related services.
  1. Vehicle Registration
  2. Driver’s License Management
  3. Motor Vehicle Inspection
  4. PSV Licensing
  5. Third-Party Insurance Validation
  6. Road Service Licenses
  7. Vehicle Search
It provides a centralized and user-friendly interface for tasks such as vehicle registration, including the issuance of logbooks, transfer of ownership, and registration of new vehicles. The system also facilitates driver’s license management, enabling users to apply for, renew, and replace licenses, including the smart driving license.

Additionally, TIMS supports the scheduling and tracking of motor vehicle inspections, streamlines the application process for Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licenses, and allows for the verification of third-party insurance status for vehicles.

Other services include the application for road service licenses for commercial vehicles and detailed vehicle searches to access ownership and history records. By digitizing these processes, TIMS enhances transparency, efficiency, and safety in the transport sector, reduces reliance on physical paperwork, and promotes compliance with regulatory requirements in Kenya.

Additional Tips for Travelers

You can use the app to check if a long-distance PSV is authorized for night travel and verify a vehicle’s Sacco or operator name by entering its registration number.

Why This Matters

Taking the time to perform these checks ensures your safety and helps hold drivers and vehicle operators accountable. With the NTSA app, you can play a direct role in promoting safer roads across Kenya. So next time you’re traveling, take a moment to verify details—it could make all the difference.
